Located in Clackmannanshire, the Scottish SPCA’s National Wildlife Rescue Centre in Fishcross is one of the UK’s leading facilities for the treatment and rehabilitation of wild animals, including seals. Built in 2012, the center handles over 10,000 wildlife cases annually, offering expert care to everything from foxes and deer to seabirds and marine mammals.
Seal rehabilitation is a key part of their work, especially during the colder months when grey seal pups are more vulnerable to stranding and injury, but harbor seal pup care during summer has also been upgraded with support from Caithness Seal Rescue & Rehab. The Fishcross team is equipped to provide months of intensive care, including medication, wound management, and assisted feeding, until restoring seals to full health and releasing them back into the wild.
The center operates with a strong emphasis on animal welfare, ensuring that each seal’s pain and stress are managed as carefully as their physical recovery. While not a research facility, Fishcross contributes valuable observational data and advocates for marine protection, especially around the dangers of ghost fishing gear.
With a dedicated wildlife team and a commitment to giving every animal a second chance, Fishcross stands as a vital pillar in Scotland’s marine mammal rescue landscape.
