The Seal Signal’s Mission

What signal is the Seal Signal sending? Like another bright beam cast into the sky, the Seal Signal aims to shine a light on the plight of seals – and to celebrate the intrepid heroes who fight for them. But because we’re so smitten with seals, the name also nods to the way they detect underwater “signals” through their sensitive whiskers. And abandoned seal pups send out cries that hit something within the human heart: a signal straight to our caring side.

Logo of the Seal Signal - a very confident red seal on an off-white background, shooting upwards through a ring, giving the impression of a signal beamed into the sky. The whiskers of the seal point forward as if it sensed something enticing.

Our Core Mission

Drawing of a brown, happy seal in banana pose, flippers outstretched as if it wants to hug the viewer.
  • To curate a map and directory of seal rescue and conservation efforts around the world: raising awareness of their presence in so many places, and guiding those in need to the right helpers

  • To highlight the people working tirelessly for seals and their habitats, and to encourage donations – each one thanked with a small piece of art

If the Seal Signal could send only one message, it would be this: empathy wins. In a world where the worst of humanity floods our screens every day, empathy stands as our quiet rebellion. It wears many faces – but one is a person who sees an injured seal and wants to help. People around the world, from every background, respond to this impulse. Seeing their efforts mapped out is inspiring – not just for the sake of the seals, but for what it says about humanity.

More than ever, we need to hold on to that thread of hope and the will to do better. Seal rescue might just end up rescuing more than seals, because conservation isn’t only about saving species. It’s about cultivating compassion, connection, and shared responsibility across borders.

  • Every cent goes to the seals and their helpers. The Seal Signal will never ask for donations to itself, only for direct donations to seal-related facilities and projects!

  • Seal protection is ocean protection, and vice versa.

  • Our art is human-made. Celebrating creativity and seals is our passion (pro tip: view the art on a bigger screen if you can!)

  • All pinnipeds and all pinniped friends are welcome. The Seal Signal is an inclusive space (and we’d love to hear where we can do better!)

Bonus Missions

Drawing of a beige and white seal doing the "shy" pose, with hiding their face behind one flipper. It looks as if it'S not really shy and might be a little bit mischievous.
