Founded in 2020 by Naude and Katja Dreyer, Ocean Conservation Namibia (OCN) is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing Cape fur seals entangled in marine debris, especially discarded fishing gear and plastic waste. Their mission began informally in 2013, when the Dreyers started cutting seals free from life-threatening entanglements along Namibia’s Skeleton Coast.

Unlike traditional wildlife rescue centers, OCN does not operate a rehabilitation facility or provide veterinary care. Instead, their focus is on rapid-response beach patrols, freeing seals on-site and releasing them immediately back into the wild.

OCN’s rescue videos have captivated a global audience, amassing millions of views across platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. These powerful visuals have helped raise awareness about the devastating impact of plastic pollution on marine life and inspired international support for ocean conservation. Through direct action and storytelling, OCN aims to highlight the dangers of marine debris, promote sustainable behavior and waste reduction, and encourage global engagement in ocean protection.

Their work has been featured in documentaries, news outlets, and conservation campaigns, giving a “face” to the plastic crisis and motivating change.
