About the “Report a Seal” tool

“Report a Seal” exists to help people reach the right seal rescue organization as quickly as possible. When someone encounters a seal that may be in distress, the most important thing is to contact trained professionals who can assess the situation and take appropriate action. This tool exists to make that step easier.

The locator uses your device’s location (with your permission) to show the nearest known rescue centers, along with national hotlines where they exist. It does not track or store your location, and it does not use any paid mapping services. Everything runs directly in your browser to keep the tool fast, simple, and accessible to everyone.

This is a global directory, and the ways seal strandings are responded to vary from country to country. Sometimes there are stranding networks, national hotlines, or just an array of seal centers organizing rescue and transport themselves. To keep it simple, this tool always gives you the geographically closest options (plus national hotlines). All you need to do is to call them!

The Seal Signal is not a rescue organization. All real rescue work is done by the organizations listed in the directory – the people who respond, rehabilitate, and protect marine wildlife every day. This tool is simply a way to connect the public with them more efficiently.

If you work with a rescue organization and would like to update your information or be added to the directory, please feel free to reach out. This project is meant to support your work.
