Founded in 2014, A Seal Stellendam is the newest seal rescue center in the Netherlands. Located near Rotterdam, it serves the southern Dutch coast, rehabilitating harbor and grey seals that are found sick, injured, or orphaned. Unlike its northern counterparts, A Seal operates in a more urbanized marine environment, where seals may haul out on concrete embankments and industrial shorelines rather than sandy beaches. The centerβs proximity to the Haringvliet sluices and its location within a busy delta region make it uniquely positioned to respond to seal emergencies in densely populated areas. A Seal combines hands-on care with public education, offering visitors a close-up look at the rehabilitation process and the challenges seals face in human-altered habitats.
