Since 1995, South Essex Wildlife Hospital has been a sanctuary for injured, sick, and orphaned wildlife, treating up to 10,000 patients every year. Though seals had long been part of their care when needed, specialist treatment requires both expertise and infrastructure, and there was no one else locally providing it. So in 2023, after training at renowned facilities including Sealcentre Pieterburen, they opened a dedicated seal unit to meet the growing need.
What truly sets South Essex Wildlife Hospital apart is the hands-on, heart-first approach led by founder Sue Schwar and vet Tom Linsel. Their unwavering commitment to individual lives and alleviating suffering, species by species and case by case, shines through in every aspect of their work.
